MailChimp templates come in all shapes and structures. One column, two columns, three columns, images left or images right, you’ll find it all in MailChimp’s template library. All of these templates are free for you to use, and the best part is, you can edit the template style to match your website. So if you’re willing to spend a little time figuring out how this works, you probably won’t need my email template services. Don’t stop reading just yet though…
Predesigned vs custom
Predesigned templates can be great: they’re cheap and you can use them right now instead of next week. However, more often than not you will have to compromise between the flexibility of the preinstalled template and the design features that you really really want. It’s all about the difference between “highly customizable” and “completely one-hundred-percent customizable”.
Custom MailChimp templates
Even if there are only minor or even teeny tiny compromises, you might still end up using a template that’s pretty good, but not amazingly awesome. If you can live with that, you can stop reading now. If you can’t, please continue…
Creating your very own custom email template
MailChimp allows users to install templates that have been hand crafted, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t create your own email template. After all, there’s only one person who knows what your email template should look like, and that person is you. So the best way to create an email template, is to first sit down and think about what kind of content you want to send to your subscribers. Are you going to offer them lots of products, some cool information about an intriguing topic, or something entirely different? Questions like this help shape the overall layout of your email template.
The second thing you need to do, is tell me about your plan. About your idea, your wishes and your needs. I’ll probably have some questions for you, but they’re all about what YOU want, so there are no wrong answers. Besides, I’ll probably be dishing out free advice left and right in order to optimize your email strategy. At this stage, the looks of your email template design might still seem a bit cloudy. Don’t worry though: we’ll get things sorted out in no time!
After we’ve discussed the things you want to do with your email template, I’ll start designing your custom email template. I’ll include all the elements you want and I’ll use styling elements from your website, like your logo, font styles and colors. When I’m done, I’ll send you a PDF to review. If you want to make some adjustments, we’ll discuss them and in most cases, I’ll implement them.
Next, I’ll code your custom email template, after which I’ll install it in your MailChimp account and explain to you how to use it in your campaigns. And that’s it – you are now ready to start sending out awesome email campaigns into the world!
Please note: this is not a tutorial. It’s merely a brief overview of one of MailChimp’s many features.
